Short Film “Breaking Down”

I hope you enjoy my short film representing a young girl pulling herself up after Breaking Down and ultimately becoming indifferent.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER!

If you are easily triggered, watch with caution! It is an emotional dramatic piece displaying true pain, betrayal and hopelessness.

Back then, women were expected to pick themselves up and keep going after something traumatic. Rather than dealing with the emotional distress around the time the event happens, we are expected to stay silent. To swallow whatever it is we are feeling, and be the ones to take responsibility of the abuser.

What inspired me was true life events. My innocent nature was violently ripped away little by little from people whom I trusted. I was bruised from my abdomen down and around my ass, slapped in the face with snot flying, and verbally abused. On one occasion, all three happened in the same incident. However, the one thing they all had in common, was the fact these people were not strangers to me.

Every single time, it was ME who had to do the work of healing and getting help through an organization didn’t help.
I found one that offered all kinds of free programs. Programs specifically for the people going through mental health conditions, transitions and other associates of trauma. And they heavily supported their LGBTQA folk…. I got turned away at the door for reasons I still to this day, struggle to understand. If only I had gotten the help back, I needed back then, I probably wouldn’t have become indifferent.
